The City of Fort Lauderdale Celebrates the Cultural Diversity of Its Neighbors and Employees

Equal Employment Opportunity

The Professional Standards Division is a division of the City Manager's Office. The Division is responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local laws that make it illegal to discriminate against an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. Employees wishing to report violations of Equal Employment Opportunity may submit an EEO Complaint Form.

The Division investigates and resolves complaints of unfair or unjust treatment. Professional Standards also serve as the central intake point for employee complaints that have not been successfully resolved at lower levels and determine the appropriate referral for the handling of such complaints. The Professional Standards Division is a resource for city supervisors seeking assistance in effectively handling employment matters, including conflict resolution, with the goal of resolving problems as early as possible. The Division is also responsible for the City's fulfillment of certain federal reporting requirements.

ADA Reasonable Accommodation

The City of Fort Lauderdale is an equal employment opportunity institution and will not discriminate in employment against a qualified individual with a disability. The City has policies concerning persons with a disability and procedures for accommodations. Individuals requesting a reasonable accommodation may complete the Request For Accommodation Form and the ADA Medical Provider Form. Questions regarding this policy or procedure for requesting an accommodation should be directed to the Professional Standards Division.

Exit Interviews

The City of Fort Lauderdale will elicit valuable information regarding the experience of employees who are leaving the City. The City will seek to discover the reasons behind the employee’s decision to depart and what could be improved with respect to the City’s basic operations, systems, workload, management, and supervision. The Professional Standards Division will identify trends relating to employees’ voluntary or involuntary separation from employment.

Professional Standards will send a questionnaire to termed employees which will ask a standard set of questions and employees will be given an opportunity to discuss any concerns or information that might benefit the City to know about their employment experience. Questions regarding Exit Interview Questionnaires should be directed to the Professional Standards Division.
