Defective Meters

Pursuant to Section 26-112 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, if a parking meter is defective or malfunctioning, the user must notify the City of Fort Lauderdale of the possible defect or malfunction at the time the malfunction or defect is experienced.  Notify us of the defective or malfunctioning meter by:


                                  (1) Telephone call to the city's 24/7 customer service office 954-828-8000

or

                                  (2) The City of Fort Lauderdale LauderServ Mobile App.

If a citation is issued for a meter that was reported to the city as defective the person who received the citation, or the vehicle’s registered owner, shall submit a tier-one appeal form to request an administrative appeal.

Citation Disputes

To dispute a parking citation, complete a Tier One Appeal form within ten (10) calendar days from the date the citation was issued. Appeal request can be electronically completed on the City of Fort Lauderdale’s website.

Instructions for Completing the Tier One Appeal Request

  1. Complete the online Tier-One Appeal request by accessing your citation online within ten (10) calendar days from the date the citation was issued.

  2. Before appealing a citation, you will be required to create a new guest account or log in to a existing account. 
  3. Under “Citations” section of the online parking portal home page enter citation number, or state and plate number. Then press "Search Citations".
  4. Click Appeal, then enter your plate number and click Confirm.
  5. On the appeal Details page enter email address, your cell phone number and the appeal reason. Explain in detail why you believe the citation was issued in error.
  6. Attach a copy of the citation and any supporting documentation to the form. Click Submit to complete the appeal process. 
  7. A review of your appeal request will occur within thirty (30) calendar days after receipt of the appeal form.
  8. If the appeal request is accepted the citation will be dismissed pursuant to section 26-91(d).
  9. If the appeal request is denied the citation will be upheld. Written notification of the decision will be provided to the violator and the original schedule of fines set forth in section 26-91(a) and payment requirements set forth in 26-91(b) shall then begin to run anew, as if the citation was just issued.
  10. You may appeal the Tier-One Appeal decision by requesting a Tier Two appeal.  Any such appeal is voluntary, and in the absence of taking such appeal, the tier-one appeal decision shall be deemed to be final. 

Instructions for Completing the Tier Two Appeal Request Form

  1. A Tier Two appeal form must be completed and returned to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Parking Services office: 290 N.E. 3rd Ave Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. within ten (10) calendar days from the date that the tier-one administrative appeal decision was issued.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Appeal Hearing Request Form pdf
  2. The Parking Services office will forward the completed appeals hearing request forms, to the Clerk of Court of Broward County Florida. The Clerk of Court of Broward County will issue a Broward County reference number tied to your citation.
  3. When you receive your Broward County reference number, all further concerns, payments, inquiries, and communications regarding the appeal must be addressed to:                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Clerk of Courts Parking Division, 201 SE 6th Street, Room  01140                                                                                                                    Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 or by telephone at 954-831-5804
  4. Upon receipt of the completed Appeal Hearing Request Form, any collection actions in regards to your citation being appealed, will not be processed until notice is received on the outcome of your appeal from the Broward County Clerk of Court.
  5. The office of the Clerk of Circuit Court will notify you of the date and time of your hearing.

Important Information

  • Do not pay your fine if you are appealing it. You will be required to pay the court later if the citation is upheld.
  • You waive the right to pay the current amount of the civil fee (parking fine) to the City of Fort Lauderdale when the citation is forwarded to the Clerk of Circuit Court.
  • If the citation is upheld, it may be subject to additional fees and costs.
