As density continues to expand from the downtown urban core, City staff identified a need to balance the parking needs of a mixed-use neighborhood. Parking was becoming scarce, and the implementation of paid hourly parking and the creation of a pilot residential parking permit programFlagler Village Parking Permit Boundary Map will increase the availability for neighbors and visitors.

The City of Fort Lauderdale Code ordinances, specifically Section 26-156, gives the Transportation and Mobility Department the authority to install, operate, and maintain parking meters throughout the city. With this authority, the parking program modifications did not go to the City Commission for consideration or a vote. Instead, staff created an implementation plan that included two phases (east and west of NE 3rd Avenue). Phase One (east) started implementation in May 2022 and Phase Two (west) started in July 2022.
