Flood hazard mitigation is defined as all actions that can be taken to reduce property damage and the threat to life and public health from flooding. Flood hazard mitigation measures can be categorized into six basic strategies (i.e., prevention, property protection, natural resource protection, emergency services and structural projects).

Financial assistance for implementing mitigation measures is available prior to and after a flood. Please refer to the following Property Protection Financial Assistance letter released by the Floodplain Group for examples of the assistance available.
