Structures within the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) in a community participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are subject to floodplain management regulations. Any work conducted in the floodplain must have a corresponding permit. This includes, but is not limited to, construction of new structures, modifications or improvements to existing structures, excavation, filling, paving, drilling, driving of piles, dredging, land clearing, grading and permanent storage of materials or equipment.

Prior to the 2010 Florida Building Code, these regulations were found only in the City's floodplain management regulations (i.e., Ch. 14 of the Code of Ordinances). These regulations are now located throughout the volumes of the Florida Building Code and are coordinated with Chapter 14. For further information, please refer to the following resources:
