bonnet houseThe Historic Preservation Board (HPB) is a City advisory board. Members are appointed by the mayor and city commissioners for three-year terms. They meet the first Monday of each month at City Hall at 5 pm.

The HPB has several purposes. Their chief task is to implement the City’s historic preservation regulations. The HPB also reviews applications to designate architecturally worthy buildings and districts. Equally important, they review exterior alterations to locally designated landmark buildings and groups of buildings within historic districts to keep their appearance sympathetic to the original designs. This includes yard features and review of adjacent new construction in historic districts.
