The Fire Rescue Assessments to be assessed and apportioned among benefited parcels pursuant to the Cost Apportionment and Parcel Apportionment to generate the estimated Fire Rescue Assessed Cost for the Fiscal Year commencing October 1, 2023, are as follows:

What is the Fire Special Assessment Fee?

The Fire Special Assessment Fee is a fee collected to cover a portion of “Fire” related expenses.

Does this fee cover all the costs for Fire Rescue?                    

No. The fee collected covers a portion of “Fire Related (Non-Emergency Medical Service)” costs only.  The cost for Emergency Medical Services is offset through other revenues which include, but are not limited to, the General Fund.

Does this fee cover any other City services?

No.  The fire assessment is a dedicated revenue source, meaning that we can only use it to cover the costs of fire service, not any other City services.

Then, why do I pay an Ambulance Transport Fee?

The transport fee helps the City offset the costs of the services that cannot be covered by the fire assessment fee.

Does everyone pay the same Fire Assessment fee rate? No.

Residential Properties - $338.00 per dwelling unit.

Commercial/Industrial/Warehouse/Institutional Properties pay different (tiered) rates based on Square Footage.

Is the fire assessment rate on my current tax bill what it will be?

The new rate has been adopted by the City Commission for Fiscal Year 2024, which runs from October 1st, 2023 to September 30th, 2024.

When will the final fire assessment rates be set?

The final Fire Assessment Rate were set by the City Commission on Wednesday ,September 13th at a Special Public Hearing.   The special public hearing was held at the Parker (707 Northeast 8th Street) @ 5:01 PM.  This was a public hearing and the public was welcomed to attend.

When is the effective date of the Fire Assessment Fee?

As with the Ad Valorem Property Taxes, the effective date will be October 1st, 2023.  The final millage and Fire Assessment rates will appear on the November tax bills provided by Broward County.
