Shady Banks is a geographically distinct neighborhood located in the southwest part of Fort Lauderdale. It is bounded on the east by and south by the South Fork of the New River. It is bounded on the west by Interstate 95 and on the north by Davie Boulevard. Shady Banks was outside the original city limits and part of unincorporated Broward County. The area was eventually annexed by the growing city of Fort Lauderdale.
Shady Banks contains 386 contributing resources and 113 non-contributing resources. The period of significance is from 1948 through 1970. Additionally, four buildings were identified as being individually eligible. These buildings were all architect designed, possess high artistic value, and retain a high degree of integrity. Three of the buildings were constructed after the period of significance and therefore are not considered contributing resources to the historic district.
