Tarpon River is a geographically distinct neighborhood located in central Fort Lauderdale. It is bounded by the South Fork of the New River on the west and the New River on the north, South Andrews Avenue to the east, and Davie Boulevard to the south. While Tarpon River has a higher concentration of early buildings, the area was developed as multiple small subdivisions. The remaining historic structures lack the cohesive unity to delineate additional historic districts. Additionally, many of the single family houses have been extensively altered, making it difficult to identify many individually eligible properties.
With the neighborhood of Tarpon River, one potential historic district was delineated. The Elva A. Truax Historic District, located just south and east of the New River, west of SW 4th Avenue, and north of SW 5th Street. The potential district contains 40 contributing resources, 11 non-contributing resources, and 4 vacant lots. The period of significance is 1911 through 1950.
In Tarpon River 36 individual resources were identified within the neighborhood.
