Colee Hammock Area Description

Colee Hammock is a geographically distinct neighborhood located in central Fort Lauderdale. It is bounded by East Broward Boulevard to the north, the Sospiro Canal to the east, the New River to the south, and Southeast 9th Avenue, the Himmarshee Canal, and Southeast 12th Avenue to the west. Within Colee Hammock, three potential historic districts were delineated.

Colee Hammock Art Moderne Potential Historic District

Colee Hammock Art Moderne Historic District located along the north and south side of Southeast 2nd Court at Southeast 16th Avenue. The Colee Hammock Art Moderne Historic District is the smallest of the three and contains four contributing resources and no non-contributing. The period of significance is 1928 through 1940.

Colee Hammock Northwest Potential Historic District

Colee Hammock Northwest Historic District, located along the west side of SE 12th Avenue between SE 1st Street and SE 2nd Street and the north side of SE 2nd Street between SE 12th Avenue and SE 13th Avenue. The Colee Hammock Northwest Historic District contains 17 contributing resources and 3 non-contributing resources and the period of significance is 1924 through 1955.

Colee Hammock Northeast Historic District, along the north and south side of SE 2nd Street between SE 16th Avenue and SE 17th Avenue and the north side of SE 2nd Court between SE 16th Avenue and SE 17th Avenue. The Colee Hammock Northeast Historic District contains 13 contributing resources and 6 non-contributing resources and the period of significance is 1918 through 1949.
